Cypruswalks Itineraries

cypruswalks.com are pleased to offer a walking itinerary and individual walks that you will not find in any walking guide books or with any other organisations. Quite simply these walks are unique!

To help you decide what options best suit your holiday needs we have focused on the following:
•  How does the flexible itinerary work?
•  The itinerary, general information and an introduction to your guides
•  Minimum and maximum group numbers
•  Itinerary availability dates

Of course if you have any other questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

How does the flexible itinerary work?

The itinerary below is based over a 7 day “rolling” week by week availability between the dates shown commencing on a Thursday.

•  Rest days are Wednesday and Saturday when you can relax and do your own thing or take advantage of locally organised excursions.
•  You can arrive any day of the week and just pick up the itinerary the next day for the next 7 days. Alternatively you can chose to only walk those
days you want whilst still benefiting from the other elements of your holiday.
• This flexibility is, we believe, a major difference and advantage in offering a walking itinerary that allows you to travel when you want (securing
the best flight deals) whilst still benefiting from a full 7 day walking itinerary program.

 The Walking Itinerary

(your guides will flex routes according to the group's abilities and requirements)

Walk itinerary 1 (Thursday) – Akamas Explorer

The Akamas Peninsula is one of the last coastal areas in Southern Cyprus to remain untouched by mass development. Wild and rugged, the Akamas Park has many nature trails, not all of which are easy to navigate!
This walk will show you the wildest side of the Akamas, away from the nature trails.
Highlights: Spectacular views of the rugged coastline, rocky goat paths (filled with goats!), endemic species of flora most visible in spring (Feb-April).

Walk itinerary 2 – Evretou Valley

Beautiful valley close to Polis/Latchi, home to the main irrigation dam for the Polis area – the Evretou dam. Steep sided valley floor rising to pine forest at the top of the valley. This walk will take in some of the villages in the valley and follow the riverbed to the dam.
Highlights: Venetian bridge en route to the dam, deserted villages, weaving and lace making at a mountain village

Walk itinerary 3- Lysos Gorge

Drive to 600m to explore the pine forest near the village of Lysos. Wonderful views across the valley and beyond to the Troodos mountains.
Highlights: The gorgeous hidden gorge, possibility of moufflon spotting (the wild indigenous mountain sheep), pine forest scents.

Walk itinerary 4 – A Dam Nice Day Out!

Explore the forest and village areas around the Pomos Dam. Lots of ascending and steep descending. Visit a tiny hidden church from the world. Gaze into Northern Cyprus too.
Highlights: Views of Morphou Bay and the mountains in Northern Cyprus, alpine environment, visit Pomos Dam en route, middle of nowhere feel of the day!

Walk itinerary 5 – Drouseia Rocks

At 600m above sea level, Drouseia village is famous for its weird rock formations – if you know Dartmoor, you will feel at home here! We explore the many paths around the village and make a spectacular descent to Lara Bay – quiet, beautiful and deserted and home to the Green Turtle in the Summer months. 8km of ascent and descent today so expect a long day
Highlights: Views at and on the approach to Lara bay, the rocks! The greenery in springtime. Views of Chrysochous Bay as well.

Optional Gorge Walk – (not available after heavy rain) – can replace one of the above dependent on group.

The Avakas Gorge - This requires scrambling and agility and there can be a good deal of water in the lower levels of the gorge.

Please note your guides will flex routes according to the group’s abilities and requirements. Again all part of the flexible option we offer.

 General Information

•  Walks will be between 15-20km (9-12miles), approx. 4-6 hours duration plus lunch stop
•  Pick up time 9.15am, return by 4.30pm (Oct-April)
•  You should be physically fit and used to walking for most of the day – the pace will be leisurely but there are many hills and some terrain is rocky so
surefootedness is required. A walking pole is recommended for some walks.
•  Less experienced walkers can be catered for but you should specify this at the time of booking to ensure a consistent level of experience/fitness
    within each group.
•  These walks you will not find in any guide book
•  Locally based guides with excellent knowledge of the area
•  Guides have emergency first aid training (RECS) and have hiked/trekked all over the world including Bolivia, Nepal, Ethiopia and Tanzania
•  Guides speak English, French, some German and Greek
•  On making a confirmed booking you will be sent a “kit list” factsheet offering practical advice on what clothing and other equipment to bring
    (dependant on time of year).

About the Guides

Helen is a former retail professional focussed on customer service and organising, especially all the attention to detail. Loves cooking, mountain biking, hiking, staying fit and healthy. Passionate about Cyprus and loves the wild, rugged beauty of the environment. Speaks French, some German and is getting there with Greek!

Al used to be a banker, then qualified as a rural surveyor before giving it all up to set up business with Helen in Cyprus. He's the handyman, loves
people watching and is full of bright ideas.

Before settling in Cyprus, Helen and Al travelled the world, exploring amazing countries like Bolivia, Ethiopia, Nepal, Brazil, Tanzania, New Zealand and Morocco either on foot or by bike.

They also know the best taverna’s in the area and arrange the optional weekly Taverna Evening – a traditional Cypriot Meze with a difference!

Minimum and Maximum Group Numbers

cypruswalks.com offers a personal and bespoke service depending on the size and needs of each walking group.

•  The maximum group size will be 10 on any given walk.
•  Whilst a minimum of 4 persons is generally required for each walk to operate, groups of 3 can be catered for with the payment of an additional
“small party supplement –SPS” of £6.50 per person per walk in addition to the usual daily walk price (see Itinerary Prices below).
•  Unless you want a smaller group should the party size for your chosen itinerary increase then the SPS will cease to apply. In this way you can
guarantee your holiday booking, itinerary dates and accommodation and take advantage of deals on earlier booked flights.
•  This also means we hope to avoid “provisional” bookings until party numbers are achieved. You want to know you are going on your walking
holiday! We believe this makes us unique.
•  This does make cypruswalks.com ideal for smaller groups of friends wanting a more “private” week or singles and couples happy to join a group
that’s small enough to remain personal and attentive to your requirements.
•  Larger groups above 10 can of course be catered for. Details on request.
